Zetasizer

The Zetasizer, from Malvern Panalytical, is the platform's dynamic light scattering instrument, resolving hydrodynamic size across a very wide range — from about 0.3 nm up to 10 µm (extending to 15 µm on some models) — from a sample volume as small as a few microlitres, using backscatter and forward-scatter detection depending on the configuration.

Size range: ~0.3 nm to 10 µm

Minimum sample volume: as little as 3 µL, depending on model

Detection angles: backscatter (173°) and forward scatter (13°), configuration-dependent

Absolute sensitivity: down to ~150 kcps

The Zetasizer runs every DLS application described on the method page — aggregation screening, formulation development, process monitoring — as the platform's fast, routine first check on solution quality, ahead of any slower, more resolving technique such as AUC.
